Pecos, NM: Over the next eight to ten weeks, please be aware of traffic controllers along Highway 50 near Glorieta. They will be facilitating the movement of trucks and equipment as part of scheduled removal of non-historic and non-contributing National Park Service structures.
Congress added the Glorieta Unit to Pecos National Historical Park in 1990 to preserve for future generations the many sites and remnant features related to the 1862 Battle of Glorieta Pass. The National Park Service is mandated to preserve this site and interpret and enhance visitor understanding of the Civil War and the Far West. The removal of non-historic structures from this registered national historic landmark battlefield will help visitors gain a more accurate understanding of the geography of this pivotal battle
