Work With Us

Archaeologists. Masons. Interpretive rangers. Maintenance crews. Administrative staff. Law enforcement rangers. It takes a lot of people to manage a park, and Pecos National Historical Park is no exception.

Work for Pecos National Historical Park

The National Park Service (NPS) lists all job opportunities on USAJobs.gov, the official job site for the federal government. This is where you can find current job opportunities at Pecos National Historical Park. You can also set an alert on USAJobs.gov to ensure you are notified when opportunities are posted for Pecos or in the surrounding area; learn how to set an alert.

Seasonal Employment

Employment with the NPS often begins with seasonal positions. Summer seasonal jobs at Pecos typically include positions in the following fields: interpretation and visitor services; protection and law enforcement; maintenance; and historic preservation and masonry. Seasonal positions at Pecos tend to run from April/May to September/October.

Job announcements go up early; positions are typically posted between September and February for the following summer. Applying for a federal job is different than applying for jobs in the private sector. See the Basic Application Tips section below for suggestions on navigating the federal hiring process.

All NPS jobs are listed on USAJobs.gov. However, many parks, including Pecos, also work with partner organizations to offer paid internships. Some partner organizations that may be offering internships at Pecos include the Student Conservation Association and Traditional Trades Advancement Program.

Basic Application Tips

The NPS provides general information about working for the agency and applying for jobs. Here are some main things to keep in mind:

  • Make an account now. You can create a USAJobs.gov account and upload or create a resume at any point. This will ensure that you are ready to apply as soon as jobs are posted.
  • Prepare your federal resume. Federal resumes are often six pages or longer. That’s because hiring officials can’t assume anything; you must explicitly state what you have accomplished in all current and past positions, as well as dates of employment and number of hours worked per week. Be sure to cover all of your employment and academic experience, and include all relevant knowledge, skills, abilities, and trainings.
  • Apply as soon as possible. Most opportunities in the NPS will only accept a certain number of applications. This means that many jobs, especially seasonal positions, may close after the first day. So, apply as soon as you see a job you’re interested in!
  • Read the entire job announcement. Follow all instructions listed in the “How to Apply” section.
