The Great Backyard Bird Count is coming up on February 16-19. This is an international event in which people from all over the world can input their bird sightings onto birdcount.org. Participation in this event is very easy. All you need to do is record bird observations around your area for a minimum of 15 minutes and submit them to the database.

Citizen science events such as these give scientist a way to gather information that otherwise would be very difficult to obtain. By participating, you will be contributing invaluable data that will help scientist gain a better understanding of the distribution and population of birds.

The Palo Alto Battlefield and Resaca de la Palma battlefield units are home to a wide variety of different bird species. You might spot a Botteri’s Sparrow hoping along the coastal prairie, an Aplomado Falcon perched upon a mesquite tree, or a black-bellied tree duck wading along the resaca banks.

Come out and be a part of the 2018 Great Backyard Bird count.
