A trio of dedicated volunteers has made our Resaca de la Palma Battlefield unit their temporary home. These volunteers are helping the park address two important needs — office space and visitor services.
Jim Hufford and Roger Engle are working on a project at the park’s Maintenance compound and Connie Engle is helping to operate a Ranger contact station at the Visitor Center.
Getting Creative
The project at the Maintenance compound involves converting a 20 ft. metal shipping container into office space for three to four Maintenance staff. This project consists of building and installing framing for the interior walls and ceiling, insulating those areas, and installing a window on the backside of the container. The team is also removing one of the container doors and framing and installing a standard entrance door. They will also be installing all the electrical and data lines inside the new office.
This project is already paying off. Jim and Rodger’s hard work is allowing Maintenance staff to focus their efforts on other park projects and maintaining the site.
Space is at a premium at the park. In the long-term, the project’s creative use of existing storage space will allow Maintenance staff to efficiently execute their administrative duties.
Thankful
Connie is providing much appreciated assistance at the Ranger contact station. This support is expanding the capacity to provide visitor services and allows Interpretive staff to focus on other projects as well.
Over the next serval weeks, this dedicated group of volunteers will contribute almost 300 hours of service, at a value of over $13,000. Palo Alto Battlefield is very grateful to our volunteers for their time and hard work.
Thank you Jim, Roger, and Connie!
