Contact: Krystina Webster, 520-387-6849 x7304 Ajo, Arizona - Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument re-opens to visitors today. Visitors can access public areas, roads, and the visitor center immediately. Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument has been closed since October 1 due to the lapse in Congressional appropriations. "We are happy to be back at work and welcome visitors to the monument, " said acting Superintendent Matt Vandzura. "Autumn is a particularly special season to enjoy all that Organ Pipe has to offer. The temperatures are approaching a more comfortable range for hiking the area trails." Both campgrounds and scenic drives are open for use, as they were in September. Stop in at the visitor center daily between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm if you have questions about what there is to do on the monument. Park staff are working to schedule regular ranger programs for the peak season, starting in January. -NPS- |
