Search Underway for Missing Person

PORT ANGELES, WA: Saturday evening, April 25, Clallam County Sheriff’s Office located the vehicle of Port Angeles resident Margaret Baker, 60, parked in a pull-out on East Beach Road. The Sheriff’s Office was attempting to locate Baker after PenCom received multiple 911 calls for welfare checks. Baker was reported missing by a family member after being unable to contact her. Park Rangers were notified the vehicle was located and a hasty search began at Lake Crescent.

Park rangers searched the lakeshore and located Baker’s red kayak at 6:45 pm Saturday evening near milepost 229 along Highway 101. On Sunday, multiple searches were conducted by boat by park rangers with the assistance of the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office and Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife. Park rangers were also assisted by a search and rescue dive team and search dogs from Kitsap County as well as the German Shepherd Search Dogs of Washington State. Park rangers continue to search at Lake Crescent today and to organize additional dive team resources. Park rangers are conducting this investigation in coordination with the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office, Port Angeles Police Department, and the Investigative Services Branch (ISB) of the National Park Service.
