Crews Confirm Wildland Fire near Constance Pass Trail

PORT ANGELES, Wash. — On September 6, Olympic Interagency Fire crews discovered a lightning-caused fire start approximately 0.5 miles southeast of the Sunnybrook Wilderness Campsite in Olympic National Park. The fire – now named the Sunnybrook Meadow Fire - currently covers 1/10 of an acre in the Daniel J. Evans Wilderness. There are no closures or threats to public safety or infrastructure at this time. 

The fire started in a single tree in a mixed conifer forest on a rocky slope approximately 5,400’ above sea level. Interagency crews made initial observations on a reconnaissance flight on Saturday, September 6. Cloudy conditions prevented additional observation on Sunday and Monday.  

Weather conditions, including high humidity recoveries at night, have been moderating fire behavior. Crews will continue to track fire behavior and adjust management tactics as conditions change.
