Obed Wild and Scenic River is requesting assistance in identifying persons responsible for recent acts of vandalism to a vault toilet building at Barnett Bridge. This facility is a new improvement for the park and was installed in early 2022. As a result of the damage, the building will be temporarily closed to the public while repairs are carried out.
Over the past 2-3 weeks several acts of vandalism have taken place. These include using large rocks to damage the exterior of the door as well as damage to the interior of the building including removal of the toilet. "In addition to the added cost to taxpayers to repair such damage, acts of vandalism negatively impact the experience of visitors and local residents who use these facilities," said Superintendent Niki Stephanie Nicholas.
Park rangers are actively investigating these acts of vandalism and are conducting interviews with individuals who may have been present during the relevant time frames.
Anyone with information concerning these incidents is encouraged to call the park’s Tip Line at 423-569-7301. The 24-hour tip line allows callers to remain anonymous.
