Obed Wild and Scenic River is pleased to announce it has recently been awarded a grant by Eastern National, to further the Parks-In-Focus program in 2017.

The “Parks in Focus” program is a year-long curriculum-based youth program designed to connect middle school youth to nature through photography and creative expression. Students also take part in environmental education programs and outdoor recreation experiences. The goal of this program is for students to not only learn basic photography concepts and techniques, but also more about the biodiversity of the flora and fauna of Obed Wild and Scenic River.

“For the past year the Parks in Focus program has been offered as a pilot program at Obed WSR, Big South Fork NRRA, and Manhattan Project NHP with great success, and the recently awarded grant will ensure that this innovative educational program will continue to introduce the importance of  these special places to the next generation of park visitors, supporters, and advocates,” said Superintendent Niki Nicholas.

Eastern National is a not-for-profit cooperating association that supports interpretive, educational, and scientific programs and services of the National Park Service.
