Contact: Chance Hall, 423-346-6294 Contact: Chris Derman, 423-569-9778 In celebration of the National Park's upcoming centennial, the Obed Wild and Scenic River, in partnership with bowyer Travis Gosnell, announces another primitive bow workshop on Friday evening, August 14, 2015, at the Obed Visitor Center, 208 N. Maiden Street, Wartburg, Tennessee. The program begins at 5 p.m. and will conclude by 7 p.m. Travis Gosnell built his first bow as a child and has always enjoyed a good challenge. He says, "At times, it (bow building) is a kind of therapy from the rat race of life." Travis has his bachelor's degree in history and political science from Tennessee Technological University and has worked a variety of jobs before becoming a teacher at Wartburg Middle School. He enjoys hunting, fishing, Native American archeology, and World War II history. Travis is now excited about the opportunity to pass on his passion for primitive weaponry to others. Visitors will have the opportunity to help in the process of building a primitive bow and to ask Travis questions about primitive weaponry. This program marks the one year anniversary of the Obed Wild and Scenic River's primitive bow workshops. One of the two primitive bows that these workshops have created is almost complete. Those in attendance will also get to discuss the next chapter in these workshops and voice their opinion about what they would like to see in the future. Travis says "I am excited to see where this program will go and hope to see more curious and passionate people come out and participate." This wheelchair accessible program requires no reservation and is free to the public. Children must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the program.
