Contact: Veronica Greear, 423-346-6294 Contact: Matt Hudson, 423-346-6294 Over 80 volunteers participated in the recent 15th Annual Adopt-A-Crag at the Obed Wild and Scenic River. This stewardship event was a partnership between the East Tennessee Climbers Coalition and the National Park Service that resulted in 400 hours of volunteer efforts at the Obed Wild and Scenic River. Volunteers helped with projects including trail restoration and definition, litter clean-up, and treatment of over one hundred hemlock trees to protect them from the deadly hemlock woolly adelgid. This event is an excellent example of park visitors investing themselves in the places that are special to them and is another great step towards preserving the Obed's natural environment for future generations. If you are interested in more information about this event or other volunteer opportunities, please contact the Obed Wild and Scenic River Volunteer Coordinator Veronica Greear at (423) 346-6294. |
