NATIONAL PARK SERVICE CONCESSION TO REOPEN AS STEHEKIN LANDING RESORT The National Park Service has finalized negotiations on an interim contract to operate the Stehekin Landing concession for the next two operating seasons. The new concessionaire will reopen accommodations and food services in Stehekin as the Stehekin Landing Resort. Substantial facility improvements and operational enhancements are being made that include new options for guest rooms, meal service, and recreational experiences. "The National Park Service is pleased to have been presented with the opportunity to fund these improvements as we prepare for the issuance of a long-term concession contract to begin in October 2008," explained Margie Allen, Chief of Administration and Business Practices. The popular Rainbow Falls tour will resume March 15 coinciding with daily Lady Express boat service. Commercial fuel sales at the Stehekin marina will also resume on March 15. The Stehekin Landing Resort currently has units with kitchenettes available, and anticipates being open for full restaurant and hotel service by mid-May. Until then, visitors to Stehekin are reminded to bring their own food and beverages – limited lunch and snack items are available on the Lady Express and Lady of the Lake II. The Golden West Visitor Center in Stehekin is currently open 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays and will be open daily 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. beginning March 15. The Visitor Center is staffed by National Park Service rangers and offers hot beverages, an orientation video, and exhibits.
