Sedro Woolley, WA – Following a recent storm pattern with numerous lightning strikes, a fire is active in Lake Chelan National Recreation Area within North Cascades National Park Service Complex. The 0.25-acre Rainbow Fire was detected Monday. Park officials have closed the Boulder Creek Trail from the junction with the Rainbow Loop and the War Creek trails, as well as Hooter, Rennie, and Reynolds Hiker and Stock camps, due to visitor safety concerns.
North Cascades Smokejumpers are on the ground to assess and engage directly on the fire’s edge. The fire is in a remote area with steep terrain. Crews plan to utilize a helicopter for aerial delivered water to support firefighters on the ground.
If you see smoke or flames dial 911 or report to a park visitor or information center. Contact the Wilderness Information Center for trail information at noca_wilderness@nps.gov.
