Pyramid Area Fires

Following Wednesday’s storm pattern with numerous lightning strikes through the area, two fires have been detected and are active in Ross Lake National Recreation Area within North Cascades National Park Service Complex. The two fires are located in the Pyramid Creek Drainage along State Route 20. The Pyramid Peak Fire is approximately 0.25-acres with minimal fire behavior, and the Pyramid Creek Fire is a single tree with minimal activity. Park officials have closed the Bouck, Colonial, and Snowfield cross-country zones due to visitor safety concerns. 

Four North Cascades Smokejumpers and the North Cascades Fire Crew are on the ground in steep terrain to engage directly on both fires. Crews plan to utilize a helicopter for aerial delivered water to support firefighters on the ground. 

Fire personnel continue to monitor the area for additional fire starts from recent and predicted storms throughout the area for the next few days.
