North Cascades National Park is recruiting for six youth age 16-18 for this summer’s Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) in Marblemount, Washington from June 21 through August 13. The program is non-residential; therefore, enrollees are responsible for their own housing and daily transportation to and from Marblemount. Work hours are Monday through Thursday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and the pay rate is $8.55 per hour. Transportation will be provided from Marblemount to work sites each day, which could include campgrounds, roads and trails.

Duties
Work with the park’s Native Plant Crew, Building and Utilities Crew, and assist other park employees. Native plant work might include seed collecting, planting, transplanting, fertilizing, and weeding of native plants. Other work may include picnic table assembly, grounds keeping, trail maintenance, campground maintenance, painting, brush clearing, digging and clearing ditches, raking gravel, and installing signs and toilets. The use of hand tools for digging, cutting, pruning, sweeping, and carpentry may be required.

Requirements
Must be able to follow written and oral instructions, learn and follow safe work habits, exhibit regular and punctual attendance, learn to use and maintain the various tools needed for the work, lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds, hike five or six miles per day – sometimes over difficult terrain.

Work Conditions
Must be prepared to work under conditions that include heat, cold, rain, wind and/or biting insects. Conditions might also include dirt, dust and noise.

Eligibility
Men and women between 16 through 18 years of age, who will not reach 19 years of age while in the job, and who are permanent residents of the United States, its territories or possessions, are eligible for employment without regard to social, economic, racial, or ethnic background. Applicants must have a Social Security card and a birth certificate. Recruitment is from within the Skagit County area only.

Completed applications must be received no later than Friday, May 14, 2010, at 4:30 p.m. at North Cascades National Park Service Complex, 810 State Route 20, Sedro-Woolley, WA 98284, attention: Human Resources.
