Artist Presentation: Ian Campbell, Newhalem Artist-in-ResidenceOctober 6, 7:00 p.m.Upper Skagit Library, Concrete - Free

North Cascades National Park is currently hosting resident artists in two different locations. The purpose of these residencies is to provide visitors, community members, and park staff opportunities to explore the meanings and significance of the park, its resources, and its people through art.

North Cascades National Park's Newhalem Artist-in-Residence, Ian Campbell, is trained as a landscape architect and designer, and utilizes technological tools to inspire new perspectives. Using a laser optical process, photography, drawings and sculpture, Ian's residency will seek to show how technology can create more meaningful and lasting connections between people and place in the North Cascades. Learn more about Ian's artistic process and his first impressions of the North Cascades during a free public presentation at the Upper Skagit Library in Concrete this Thursday, October 6 at 7:00 p.m.

Painter and art educator Earnest Ward has returned for the second time as North Cascades National Park's Stehekin Artist-in-Residence. It is unusual for an artist to complete more than one residency at the park, but Earnest is seeking to experience Stehekin's flora, fauna, history, and way of life this fall as a complement to his previous spring residency. Accompanying Earnest are his children: Evan, age 14, and Gwyneth, age 12 - both of whom are also serving as resident artists. Evan will give concerts playing Irish fiddle tunes and Gwyneth will teach journaling classes for kids using pencil, watercolor, and colored pencils.

Works from many previous Artists-in-Residence are on display at the North Cascades Visitor Center near Newhalem and the Golden West Visitor Center in Stehekin. Additional information about the park's Artist-in-Residence Program is available at https://www.nps.gov/noca/supportyourpark/artist-in-residence.htm.
