The National Park Service has a unique business opportunity for commercial services in Stehekin, located on the headwaters of beautiful Lake Chelan, and a gateway to the North Cascades. People interested in this opportunity are invited to Stehekin on October 4 to tour the current operation of the concession facilities and meet with park concession staff. The National Park Service is soliciting proposals for a concession contract for overnight accommodations, food and beverage, retail, fuel and transportation services in Lake Chelan National Recreation Area, part of the North Cascades National Park Complex. The National Park Service Concessions Management Improvement Act of 1998 requires the National Park Service to award concession contracts through a competitive bid process. A prospectus, which is a solicitation for proposals for the commercial services, is available at http://www.nps.gov/commercialservices.
The contract will be for ten years and is estimated to start on November 1, 2011. The required services under this contract include overnight accommodations (29 lodging units), food and beverage services, retail services for limited groceries, souvenirs, camping and fishing supplies, transportation for shuttle services and Rainbow Falls tours, operation of a public shower and laundry, and vehicle and boat fuel sales. Additional authorized services include bicycle, boat and equipment rentals, guided instruction, water and vehicle taxi services, and other tours.
The Concessioner will be assigned a total of 21 buildings which include lodging units, a full-service restaurant, a general store and a variety of housing units for employees. In addition, the Concessioner will be assigned four heritage style buses for use in the provision of tours and shuttle service. In recent years, significant improvements have been made to the buildings and facilities, providing a solid base for hospitality operations.
