Despite higher temperatures over the weekend, there was minimal fire activity on Bear Creek Fire. The most recent weather system brought cooler temperatures and 0.3 inches of rain Monday night with no increased fire behavior. Continued cool temperatures and additional moisture is forecasted for the fire area; significant moisture is not expected.
Firefighters continue work along trails clearing brush around bridges and other visitor use infrastructure.
Trail and camp closures remain on the Copper Ridge and Chilliwack trails due to the fire’s proximity. The Copper Ridge Trail is closed from Copper Lookout to the junction with the Chilliwack Trail. The Chilliwack Trail is closed from the junction of Brush Creek Trail to the north terminus. Copper Lake, Bear Creek, and Indian Creek camps are also closed.
Moraine Lake and Moraine Lake 2 fires have joined, now known as Moraine Lake Fire. The fire is estimated 160 acres. Smoke was visible to backcountry visitors in the West Fork Thunder Creek area over the weekend with the warmer temperatures. There was minimal fire behavior in recent days with cooler temperatures and moisture to the area, which is forecasted to continue through the upcoming weekend.
