96 Crossroads: Revolution at the Star Fort NINETY SIX, South Carolina: To honor Ninety Six's Revolutionary War history, Ninety Six National Historic Site will host a weekend of special events on April 13- 14, 2013. "96 Crossroads: Revolution at the Star Fort" is a free event!Programs and activities will be held from 9:00 am - 5:00 pm on Saturday, and 10:00 am - 3:00 pm on Sunday.The Visitor Center will be open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm both days. Visitors who have attended "Revolutionary War Days" in the past will recognize some old favorites in the upcoming event: a smoke-filled encampment of over 75 American and British reenactors, a wreath-laying ceremony at the Birmingham Monument, 18th century historic weapons demonstrations, Revolutionary War cavalry demonstrations, guided tours, author lectures, and children's activities. The park will host three new authors at the park to discuss their work.Ms. Nadia Dean will speak about her book, A Demand of Blood: The Cherokee War of 1776 at 11:30 am Saturday.Dr. Jim Piecuch, of Kennesaw State University will talk about Three Peoples, One King: Loyalists, Indians, and Slaves in the Revolutionary South, 1775-1782 at 2:00 pm on Saturday. Saturday at 3:00 pm, Dr. Christine Swager will review her book, Heroes at Kettle Creek. Authors will be available for book signings following their programs. These books may be purchased in the visitor center. For visitors who do not want to miss church on Sunday morning, the park will be offering an 18thcentury-style church service at 10:00. There will also be a special "reenactor scavenger hunt survey" for children of all ages to do on both days. Superintendent John Slaughter encourages everyone in the region to help commemorate the two Revolutionary War battles fought at Ninety Six, "This is YOUR National Park! What happened here gave all Americans great confidence to take the fight all the way to victory. Our nation's freedom was secured right here in YOUR backyard." Don't forget to stop by the visitor center to watch the park movie, Ninety Six: Crossroads of a Revolution, browse the bookstore, and discover artifacts in the museum. All activities are free and open to the public.In case of inclement weather, some activities may be cancelled.
