Contact: John Slaughter, 864-543-4068 Grab Your Gear - The Fishing Rodeo is Back: SC Department of Natural Resources Hosts the Star Fort Pond Fishing Rodeo NINETY SIX, South Carolina: The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources hosts the Star Fort Pond youth fishing rodeo on Saturday, May 4, 2013.This will be the first time the youth fishing rodeo will occur in a number of years. This free outdoor family event will take place at the Star Fort Pond, a property of Ninety Six National Historic Site.Youth ages 15 and under are encouraged to sign up for the fishing rodeo. The Star Fort Pond Fishing Rodeo will begin at 9 AM to 12 noon. The Star Fort Pond is located in Ninety Six, South Carolina off Kinard Road.Youth ages 6-15 must be accompanied by an adult and no adult fishing will be allowed. Pre-registration is required and limited spaces are available. Register online at http://www.dnr.sc.gov/ aquaticed/rodeos/registration.html or call (803) 737-8483. Sign in occurs 15-30 minutes prior to the session start time. The Star Fort Pond parking lot will remain closed until 8 am.Bring your own fishing equipment. A limited bait supply will be provided at the rodeo; No minnows or artificial lures allowed. The first 300 registrants will receive a free fishing rod.Anglers can catch and keep, but an event specific creel limit will be in place. For additional information, call (864) 654-1671, ext. 18.
