VALENTINE, Neb. — Niobrara National Scenic River, in partnership with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Outdoor Adventures Program, invites volunteers to celebrate National Public Lands Day by participating in a river clean-up float on Sept. 26, 2026. Participants will paddle the scenic stretch of river from Smith Falls State Park to Rocky Ford, collecting trash and helping preserve the natural beauty and ecological health of the Niobrara River.
Volunteers must register in advance using the National Park Service and University registration form.
Participants will meet at 9 a.m. at Smith Falls State Park.
A valid park permit is required for vehicle entry. Permits cost $7 per day for Nebraska-registered vehicles and $14 per day for out-of-state vehicles and may be purchased online or at the park entrance.
Participants should come prepared for changing weather conditions and wear appropriate attire for river clean-up activities.

Much of the land along the Niobrara River is privately owned, and volunteers are asked to respect property boundaries and landowners throughout the event.
