Grandview, WV – The National Park Service is recruiting volunteers to assist in staffing the small visitor center in the Grandview area of New River Gorge National River this summer. Duties include answering visitor questions, providing assistance with trip planning, giving directions, distributing park maps and brochures, and selling items from the park bookstore. The position requires excellent communication skills, and the ability to read maps, follow standard operating procedures, use a cash register, and assess the need for or provide basic first-aid. Basic First-Aid/CPR training can be provided. Most work is performed indoors, although the ability to hike in the Grandview area will provide for additional opportunities for visitor assistance.

The Grandview Visitor Center is open daily during the summer from 12:00 to 5:00 pm. The ideal volunteer will able to commit to a full shift, multiple days per week, for the entire summer (June through August). However, other arrangements may be made for interested individuals that are willing to commit to fewer hours. A nearby RV site with full hook-ups is available for volunteers that commit to at least 32 hours/week for the summer. The Grandview area of New River Gorge National River is indeed a “grand view”, best known for vast panoramic views (1400 feet above the river), and beautiful rhododendron, which bloom in mid-May. The visitor center is nestled in the middle of scenic hiking trails, picnic areas and these spectacular blooms.

Interested individuals should contact the New River Gorge National River Volunteer Coordinator, Adrienne Jenkins, at e-mail us or by calling 304-465-2634. More information about this opportunity, and other volunteer positions available with the National Park Service, can be found at www.volunteer.gov.
