Glen Jean, West Virginia –The Southside Parking Area near Thurmond, WV, in New River Gorge National River will be temporarily closed Tuesday, February 23, through Friday, February 26 while National Park Service Fire Management staff burn woody debris in the area. Debris burning is a common method used to remove vegetative material generated from maintenance activities (such as moving or tree trimming), manual or mechanical hazardous fuels reduction, hazard tree removal, construction projects, or similar activities. Signs will be posted in the area to warn visitors and residents of potentially visible smoke. The burning operations will be conducted during daylight hours only and debris piles will be extinguished at the end of each day so there will be no flames visible overnight. The Southside Parking Area will reopen on Saturday, February 27. About the National Park Service.
