Glen Jean, West Virginia,January 15, 2014 – The National Park Service partners with the Raleigh County Solid Waste Authority to provide recycling services for the Fayette County community. Eight years ago, recycle bins for plastic, aluminum, and paper products were located at Burnwood for use by the public. Recently, the recycle bins were moved to a new location because its visibility and location near a dumpster resulted in people putting household trash in the bins.

Community members who want to drop off their recyclables can find the bins by turning into the Burnwood complex off of Route 19, just north of the bridge on the southbound lane and across from the entrance to Canyon Rim Visitor Center. After entering the Burnwood complex, take an immediate right and the bins are found just inside the gate on the left-hand side of the road. The gate will be unlocked daily from9:00 AM – 5:00 PMfor access to the public. Recycling signs will soon be placed to identify its location clearly. The new location will allow better oversight by National Park Employees and hopefully reduce the household trash placed in the bins.

Park officials urge the public to use the bins for recyclables only. If household trash continues to accumulate in the bins, they could be removed. This is a service that the park wants to continue to offer, so the public's cooperation is appreciated. For questions, please contact Robin Snyder at 304-640-0724.
