Glen Jean, WV –New River Gorge National River Superintendent Lizzie Watts has announced that speed limits on some roads within the park have changed in response to traffic flow patterns and road conditions within the park. Changes include:
- Glade Creek Road: speed limits increased from 20 mph to 25 mph.
- Grandview Sandbar Campground Access Road: speed limits decreased from 20 mph to 15 mph.
- Cunard Road (Intersection to 0.75-mile marker): speed limits increased from 15 mph to 30 mph
- Cunard Road (0.75 mile marker to down to intersection at Cunard River Access, Brooklyn and Fisherman’s Access): speed limits will remain at 15 mph.
- Cunard Road (upstream from public parking area to Brooklyn Campground): established at 20 mph.
- Cunard Road (downstream from private boater’s parking area to Fisherman’s Access): established at 20 mph.
Park designated speed limits on these and other roads within New River Gorge National River, Gauley River National Recreation Area, and Bluestone National Scenic River are listed in the Superintendent’s Compendium, which can be found on the park website at https://www.nps.gov/neri/learn/management/superintendents-compendium.htm The regulation which provides authority for these changes only applies to those roads owned by the National Park Service. Those roads owned by the State of West Virginia are posted in accordance with West Virginia State Code.
