Cunard Road Closures in Effect Road repairs to the Cunard Access will cause periodic closures from mid-March to mid-May. Glen Jean, West Virginia, March 11, 2013- The National Park Service is working with Federal Highways to provide necessary repairs to Cunard Road. This access to the river for boaters, fisherman, campers, and hikers needs repairs from numerous storm events over the past two years that have caused six slips to the asphalt roadway. The roadway has become dangerous to through traffic with drops of more than twelve inches. The National Park Service wants to get repairs completed before the summer boating and rafting season begins, so work will be ongoing during the week and the road will remain open on the weekends. The Cunard Road repairs will begin on Monday, March 11 and conclude Friday, May 17th. During this time, total road closures can be expected from: 6:00 AM Tuesday through 7:00 PM Thursday during the months of March and April and during non-daylight hours May 1 through May 17. One lane of traffic utilizing single lane closures can be expected from: 7:00 PM Thursday to 6:00 AM Tuesday during the months of March and April and during daylight hours May 1 through May 17. The Horse Trail Parking Lot is closed and for the contractor to use as a staging area. Please be aware that during road closures the road is closed to all through traffic including pedestrians.
