Read the photo description and answer the question, "Can You See this Bird in Cypress Swamp?". Then click on the drop down to see if you are correct. 

 Photo: A flying, large white bird with long neck folded back and long  beak and legs. 

Answer: Yes! These large white birds stand in the water and spear fish and frogs to eat. 

Photo: A heavy bird with orange webbed feet, heavy beak, black back. The breast and face are white.
Answer: No. But you might try Maine Coastal Islands National Wildlife Refuge.

Photo: A brown bird on a log with wings spread. It has a long neck and beak.
Answer: Yes! These birds are also known as snake birds because they swim with their bodies under water with their necks sticking out.

Photo: A stocky, medium-long legged stocky bird with a long beak, grayish cap and white breast. 
Answer: Yes! If you are at the swamp at night, but beware of alligators.

Descriptions of Mammals Quiz Photos with Answers

Read the photo description and answer the question, "300 years ago, did this animal live here? (along what we now call, the Natchez Trace Parkway)?". Then click on the drop down to see if you are correct.

Yes! We still have a lot of bobcats, but they only come out at night!

No! Coyotes and armadillos came east of the Mississippi in the 20th century. 

300 years ago there were a lot, then they all got hunted, and there were none. Now, near Natchez we have a few Louisiana Black Bears.

Oh Deer, YES! And we probably have more deer now than there were 300 years ago.

Yes, 300 years ago there were cougars (mountain lions) here. Now there are none.

Answer: False! This is poison ivy and it will make your skin sore and itch! Leaves of 3, leave it be.

Answer: True! Storm winds can blow trees down or loosen the roots so they fall days after the storm.

Answer: False! This saguro catus would die from too much water. Try Saguaro National Park in Arizona.

True or False: You can find this plant hanging on trees at Mount Locust, on the Parkway.
Answer: True. Many trees around Mount Locust have long Spanish Moss living on their branches.
