KEYSTONE, SD:  The month of August is a time of change at Mount Rushmore National Memorial. The steps leading to the Borglum View Terrace will be temporarily closed; the Evening Program time will change; and the Heritage Village and Youth Exploration Area are closing for the season.

The Civilian Conservation Corps steps leading from the Grand View Terrace to the Studio Parking lot will be undergoing rehabilitation. Beginning August 14 the steps between the Grand View Terrace and the Borglum View Terrace will be closed. Visitors will still be able to access the Studio via the Presidential Trail or the Nature Trail. As the rehabilitation work progresses to the lower portion of the steps, the entire stairway will be closed. When the full stairway closes, access to the Studio will be limited to the Presidential Trail.

"We are excited to welcome the National Park Service Preservation Training Center Team as they perform the rehabilitation of the Civilian Conservation Corps stairway," stated Superintendent Schreier.  "The team specializes in training craftspeople, preserving historic resources, and promoting preservation. Their work will enhance the historic fabric as well as provide a safer environment for our visitors."

Summer seasonal programming is also changing.  Sunday August 13 the evening program will transition to an earlier start time of 8:00 P.M. The final Evening Program for the season will be September 30. The Lincoln Borglum Visitor Center, bookstore and museum as well as the Information Center's closing time will change to 9:00 P.M.

Closing day for the season at the Youth Exploration Area is Sunday August 5. Followed by the closing day for the Lakota, Nakota and Dakota Heritage Village on August 6.
