KEYSTONE, SD: Visitors to Mount Rushmore National Memorial will have the opportunity to celebrate the birth of our nation through a variety of educational programs, patriotic tributes, and musical entertainment on July 4th. A full schedule of events has been planned with festivities for visitors to enjoy.
The day’s highlights include Sequoia Crosswhite, a member of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe, providing original music and storytelling. Jasmine Pickner-Bell, a member of the Crow Creek Dakota Sioux Tribe, performing the Sacred Hoop Dance. Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln reenactors presenting talks and ready for photographs. Stop in the Lincoln Borglum Visitor Center to learn more about park ranger talks, Sculptor’s Studio programming and view the park movie.
“We are excited to have an award-winning Sacred Hoop Dancer and a nationally renowned storyteller here to immerse our visitors in the diverse history of our nation on this special day,” said Acting Superintendent Patricia Trap. "Visitors will have an opportunity to engage in variety of unique activities with the Memorial serving as their inspirational backdrop.”
There is no fee to visit the Memorial, however the $10 parking fee will be in effect. Active duty military personnel will park for free and parking for seniors is half price. Keep the parking receipt; it is valid for one year of parking.
Young visitors will have an opportunity to become Junior Rangers. They can pick up a Junior Ranger booklet, complete the activities and submit their work to earn a Junior Ranger badge.
