KEYSTONE, SD: Evening illumination of the sculpture at Mount Rushmore is about to change. There will be no sculpture lighting on the evenings of October 6th, 7th and 8th allowing time for installation of new lighting equipment. "With roadways lined in yellow aspen and mountain goats nibbling on the last greens, fall is always a great time to visit," said Superintendent Cheryl Schreier. "However fall colors are not the only change in the Black Hills. We eagerly await the installation of a new lighting system on the sculpture, providing enhanced opportunities for evening viewing," added Schreier. Fall also marks the end of the evening program on September 30. Beginning October 1st the Lincoln Borglum Visitor Center, bookstore and museum as well as the Information Center’s closing time will change to 5:00 PM. The Sculptor’s Studio will be open 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM through October 12. Closing time for the Carvers Café, the Memorial Team Ice Cream Shop and the Xanterra gift shop will change to 7:00 PM. Opening hours for all operations remain the same. Programming and hours are weather dependent.
