Permits and Reservations

Providing opportunities for appropriate public enjoyment is an important part of the National Park Service mission. Moores Creek National Battlefield is not only a significant historical site, but also holds beautiful natural landscapes which are ideal venues for a variety of special activities. In order to coordinate special park use events, and ensure the preservation of the park's history and resources for the enjoyment of all visitors, most special events and activities held in the park require a special use permit, issued only after the National Park Service (NPS) determines, from the applicant's information, that the activities involved will not impair park values and resources.

Who needs a special use permit?

A special use permit is required for activities that provide a benefit to an individual, group, or organization rather than the public at large, that require some degree of management from the National Park Service to protect park resources and the public interest, and is not initiated, sponsored, or conducted by the National Park Service. These special use permits must be obtained in advance and may require payment of a fee. Fee payments will be paid throiugh Pay.gov, please contact Ranger Jason Howell for details. Some examples of special use activities or facilities that require permits are:

  • Rental of Patriots Hall for family or community events
  • Picnic Area – First come, first serve; does not require a permit.
  • First Amendment Activities, including demonstrations and church services
  • Commercial filming or photography
  • Functions that start or end in the park
  • Scientific Research

These activities and more require a permit. Permits can be obtained by downloading the following Special Use Form and returning the completed form along with a $50 non-refundable application fee (check or money order) to the address below. Some activities require additional fees. You can contact the Special Use Coordinator to discuss additional activities related to your permit request. For example, for most permit requests for the use of Patriots Hall, an additional $100 facility use fee is required in addition to the $50 application fee. However, some uses of Patriots Hall may require additional fees on top of the $100 facility use fee. Please contact the Special Use Coordinator for all inquiries.
