On Saturday, April 22, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., we invite you to bring your American flag to help us welcome our newest fellow citizens as Moores Creek National Battlefield hosts a Naturalization Ceremony in cooperation with the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). Hundreds will be on hand as 60 individuals are sworn in as new American citizens to this great country. Guest speakers include Ben Sorensen, History Instructor and International Center Coordinator, Cape Fear Community College; USCIS staff; Jim Buell, President of the Moores Creek Battleground Association; and Matthew Woods, Superintendent. The annual Junior Ranger Day will take place immediately following this historic event, from 12 p.m. – 3 p.m., where children and their families are invited out to participate in hands-on history and learn about their National Park. This free event will include blacksmithing demonstrations, toys and games, colonial music, candlemaking, musket and cannon demonstrations, and more. Upon completion of their activities, children will be sworn in as official Junior Rangers and will receive a patch, badge, and certificate.
We invite you to pack a picnic and visit us on April 22 for this historic occasion, one in which we are sure will leave a lasting memory in your children’s life.
