Harkers Island, N.C. – The National Park Service Incident Management Team (IMT) is responding to national parks impacted by Hurricane Florence. At this time, 84 National Park Service employees from 34 parks and 18 states and the District of Columbia are assigned to the incident. The public should not enter closed areas of parks until stabilization and restoration efforts are complete.
Cape Lookout National Seashore – CLOSED

The Beaufort Visitor Information Center will reopen on Thursday, September 27.

Hours of operation are daily from 8:30 am to 5 pm.

All other visitor facilities and services remain closed; a reopening schedule is not available at this time.

Repairs of the Harkers Island Visitor Center Harbor docks continue.

Staff continue to survey and flag the Back Island Sand Road on South Core Banks.

Crews continue to make emergency repairs to roofs at Great Island area.

Additional emergency stabilization of the Portsmouth and Long Point areas will begin tomorrow.

Staff completed assessments on 18 archeological sites throughout the park.

Reservations for Long Point Cabins have been canceled for the remainder of the season.

Reservations for the Great Island Cabins have been canceled through October 25.

Cancellations may be extended; an update will be provided when available.

Moores Creek National Battlefield – CLOSED

Flood waters continue to recede (approximately 5-6 feet from high water mark), however much of the park remains flooded.

A debris clearing crew will be on site tomorrow to begin clearing downed limbs and other debris caused by the storm and flooding.

Work in administrative areas continues while water recedes from public areas.

Formal assessments and stabilization cannot begin until water recedes.

A reopening schedule is not available at this time.
