CURRIE, N.C. — Moores Creek National Battlefield is excited to welcome visitors to celebrate National Park Week from Saturday, Aug. 22 through Sunday, Aug. 30. Events and activities will incorporate the 2026 National Park Week theme of “Celebrate America’s Story,” highlighting the 250th anniversary of American independence and recognizing our shared American heritage of national parks.
In honor of the National Park Service’s 110th birthday, Tuesday, Aug. 25 is an entrance fee-free day for U.S. residents. Learn more about fee-free days throughout 2026 at nps.gov.
The main event of the week is a special Community Day celebration on Saturday, Aug. 29 from 10 a.m. to 3 pm. featuring:

a fishing clinic in the park’s fish camp area near Patriots Hall running from 10 am to 3 pm.

a family “storywalk” with the Pender County Library at 1 p.m. meeting at the picnic shelter

partner activities with the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher and Pender County Parks and Recreation
The park is offering the fishing clinic with assistance from the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission. Additionally, a local community organization, the Greater Currie Community Action Group, received a National Park Foundation Junior Ranger Angler Grant. GCCAG has been working with the park to plan the fishing clinic.
“National Park Week is a chance to connect with the places that tell America’s story and to enjoy time outdoors with family and friends,” said Acting Superintendent David M. Smith. “We’re grateful for our partners who help create welcoming, hands-on experiences for visitors of all ages.”
