Montezuma Castle to celebrate 113 years as a National Monument

In honor of the 113th anniversary of Montezuma Castle becoming a national monument, the National Park Service invites the public to a birthday celebration. On December 8th, 2019 at 2pm, staff will present programs on the conservation legacy of Theodore Roosevelt and the American Antiquities Act. Gertrude Smith, Yavapai Culture Director, of Yavapai-Apache Nation will speak to the Yavapai perspective of the development of a National Monument on ancestral lands.
 
Warm beverages will be available for donation in partnership with Verde Valley Archaeology Center. All donations will go toward a travel fund to support an art show in August featuring tribal youth.


Our staff will make every effort to ensure that children and adults of all abilities are fully included in all of our recreation programs, facilities, and parks. These events are sponsored by Western National Parks Association, a nonprofit education partner of the National Park Service. Visitors’ tax-free purchases in WNPA bookstores help WNPA provide direct support to 71 NPS units across the American West. More information can be found at www.wnpa.org.


Regular admission fees of $10 per adult apply, but there is no additional charge for the special
programs. All Federal recreation passes are accepted, including the annual, access, senior and
military pass; children age 15 and under are free.
