Trail Blazers

Do you love spending time in the great outdoors? Want to get out more and explore the islands and overlooks of the Missouri National Recreational River? Are you passionate about keeping trails well-maintained and welcoming for hikers, campers, and more?

Then, volunteer with us as a Trail Blazer! Throughout the summer season, volunteers work alongside Natural Resources and Facilities staff to maintain trails at park properties along the MNRR. These properties include Goat Island, Green Island, and Mulberry Bend Overlook. As a Trail Blazer, volunteers ride in motorized boats to access Goat and Green Island, hike on and off-trail to work sites, utilize string and/or blade trimmers to clear trails of annual vegetation growth, and clear trails of brush and fallen trees/branches. This field work can be strenuous and physically demanding.

Overall, maintaining park trails is incredibly important for visitor safety and responsible recreation. So, Trail Blazers are incredibly valuable members of our team!

Adopt-A-Trail Volunteers

Do you love hiking? Want to be the designated caretaker of your favorite spot along the Missouri National Recreational River? Join the MNRR team as an Adopt-A-Trail Volunteer!

These volunteers adopt the trails and hike them at least once a month. During their hikes, they collect any litter they find, remove debris from the trail, monitor site conditions, clean signs, and greet visitors they encounter. By adopting a trail, volunteers help to keep these recreational areas welcoming and safe for visitors while also protecting wildlife and plants.
