Purple Coneflower (Echinacea sp.)

NPS/Gordon Dietzman Prairie Home Introduction This is a dry prairie plant that grows to be between 2 and 4 feet high. It has an attractive flower that blooms for six weeks. The flower is a reddish-purple with an orange center disk. It establishes itself quickly and is a good seeder, so care should be taken because it is fairly aggressive. Butterflies and bees will nectar at its blossoms and American goldfinches will eat its seeds in the winter. Blooms: July Find It Found in many prairie restorations.
