Concord, MA. After record rainfall this April, now is your chance to get outside with your family for fishing, hiking, paddling, art, music, history and photography. Where can you do all of this for free andjust west of Boston? Come out to the 20th anniversary celebration of your local Wild and Scenic River at
the 18th annual RiverFest celebration, June 22nd and 23rdth. With over 40 activities in 9 communities,
there is something for everyone to enjoy.
Riverfest is the annual celebration of the federally-protected Sudbury, Assabet and Concord Wild and Scenic River. Designated by Congress in 1999, this year we celebrate 20 years of amazing work to
conserve and enjoy the rivers. Less than 1% of the rivers in the United States are protected as Wild and Scenic. Riverfest is your opportunity to explore why the Sudbury, Assabet and Concord is so unique!
In the MetroWest area, just a short drive from Boston, events will be hosted on and along the rivers highlighting all the things that make these rivers so special. From boat rides to bird watching to talks, art, and kids activities, there is something for everyone, whether young or old, adventuresome or more interested in a scenic stroll along the river banks.
Minute Man National Historical Park and The Old Manse join forces for a discussion about the Concord
River and the people who share its history. The free program takes place at North Bridge, Concord, on Sunday, June 23 at 1:30 p.m. More information is at https://www.nps.gov/mima/planyourvisit/calendar.htm.
The River Stewardship Council (RSC) was created to promote the preservation of these river resources.
The Council is a partnership of representatives from each of the eight shoreline communities, state and federal agencies, and two regional conservation organizations. All of the events and activities of
Riverfest are volunteer-led by partner organizations of the RSC.
