Concord, MA. Late summer and fall events at Minute Man National Historical Park return this September. Take time out from your busy schedule and join us for the opportunity to celebrate our wild and scenic rivers, walk in the footsteps of patriot, join a BioBlitz, visit the historic houses in the park, and experience the world of a British soldier.

In the News
In colonial Massachusets taverns were hubs of news and communication. Travelers brought news and perspectives from far away places, and locals read newspapers, advertisements, and public notices. Current events were discussed and political issues were debated. What were local people talking about in 1775? Visit Hartwell Tavern, talk politics with local residents of 1775, and discuss the potential impact of events.

Wayside Day: Pay a Call to The Wayside
We invite your family to meet the Alcotts (1840s), Hawthornes (1860s), Whitneys (1775), and Lothrops (1905) – all of whom lived at The Wayside. Participate
in various games and amusements and enjoy refreshments from the different
periods. You can “travel” from one time period to another at your leisure.

The Lincoln Minute Men
The Lincoln Minute Men spend the day at the home of Captain William Smith,
commander of the company in April of 1775. Watch military drills. Listen to fife
and drum music, and learn about the Smith family and life in 1775.

Historic Trades Day
Our 18th century forebears knew how to get the job done. Learn about various hands-on trades of the period and see skilled artisans at work.

BioBlitz
Minute Man National Historical Park invites all ages to join distinguished naturalists on a quest to document as many species as possible in the park.
Location: North Bridge Visitor Center, 174 Liberty St, Concord MA
Time: Saturday, September 22nd,  at 8:00 a.m. & 2 p.m. at Hartwell Tavern Lot, 136 North Great Road (Route 2A), Lincoln MA.

Authoring a Nation: A Hawthorne Neighborhood Walking Tour
Explore the neighborhood where Nathanial Hawthorne, Louisa May Alcott, Ralph Waldo Emerson, and Henry David Thoreau lived and worked. Discover how their writings helped develop a unique American identity. The walk is almost one mile. Please wear comfortable shoes.

April 19th 1775: The Battle of Lincoln?
On April 19th, 1775 the town of Lincoln Massachusetts was a small farming community that found itself faced with a world-altering event, the start of the American Revolution. How did the people of this community respond to the April 19th alarm? Did they really expect the bloodshed and violence that occurred? What effect did a prolonged war have on them? Authors Richard C. Wiggin and Donald L. Hafner will discuss the distinctive features of the town of Lincoln, its leadership, and the historical quirks that placed it at the center of American history.

National Public Lands Day Trail Clean-up
Help us care for our orchard trees remaining on the Buttrick estate, remove

invasive plants and sow native grasses and wildflowers. Bring lunch and wear
pants and sturdy shoes or boots. We will provide gloves and tools.

Battle Road Trail Walk
Join a park ranger for a 4 hour guided walk along the historic Battle Road Trail. Hear stories about the people and events of April 19, 1775 and landscape changes through time. Bring plenty of water and wear comfortable walking shoes! Tours may be cancelled in extreme weather. Call (781) 674 - 1920 to check tour status.

Revolutionary Dogs: ‘Paws for the Cause!’
Join Ranger Roger Fuller for a forty-five-minute walk on the Battle Road to explore the life of dogs in colonial America, and in the Revolution. The tour starts at Minute Man Visitor Center and goes to Paul Revere Capture Site, about half a mile, with four stops along the way. The walk is open to all. You are welcome to bring along your well-behaved, friendly dog, too.

The British Redcoat

Far from home, the British Redcoat of 1775 was faced with numerous challenges at home and abroad. Join Park Ranger Roger Fuller, dressed as a British Redcoat, to explore the experience of the British soldier of 1775.

Parker’s Revenge: The New Evidence
Archaeologist Dr. Meg Watters will share details about the Parker’s Revenge Archaeology Project that was successful in locating a key Lexington battle site from April 19, 1775. Following the presentation, Park Ranger Jim Hollister, joined by His Majesty’s 10th Regiment of Foot, will lead a walk out to the scene of action. The reenactors will demonstrate how, based on the project’s findings, we believe the battle was fought. This program will feature musket firing.

Middlesex County Volunteers Fifes and Drums
Come listen to marches, dances, and airs popular during America’s War for Independence.
Location: North Bridge, 11:00 a.m., Monument St, Concord, MA.

American Loyalists
Hear the stories of American Loyalists during the war, many of whom took
up arms in support of the British government. Learn about the American
Revolution from a very different point of view!

Wild and Scenic Rivers 50th Anniversary Celebration
Celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act, and also the
20 year anniversary of your local Wild and Scenic Rivers, the Sudbury, Assabet,
and Concord. Enjoy special tours and activities culminating in remarks by special
guests.

Halloween Tales
Celebrate Halloween with The Guild of Historic Interpreters! Join us at 5:30 p.m. for a spooky lantern walk down the Battle Road Trail to meet the spirits of 1775. Starting at 7:00 p.m. gather at the barn for an even spookier selection of ghost stories from Old and New England. Please bring a flashlight for the walk from the Hartwell parking area to the barn behind Hartwell Tavern.

Honoring Sacrifice
November 11th is “Veterans’ Day” when we honor the service and sacrifice of all the brave Americans who serve or have served in our country’s military. Join park staff, volunteers and veterans at North Bridge to learn about America’s first soldiers, the minute men. Veteran volunteers will share thoughts on service, and the role of veterans in preserving our history.

WWI, Concord and The Wayside
On Veterans’ Day, commemorate the U.S.and Concord involvement in WWI Discover the involvement of Concord residents in the war, including Margaret Lothrop, the last owner of The Wayside, and her involvement in the Red Cross in France. Tour The Wayside.
