On Thursday, December 14, 2017, Mesa Verde National Park will host the 2017 annual Holiday Open House from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. in the Chapin Mesa Headquarters area.
Everyone is invited to join park staff in this holiday celebration featuring special presentations, musical entertainment, storytelling, and refreshments. Farolitos will glow along the pathways throughout the headquarters area, a National Historic Landmark District. Special presentations throughout the historic district will highlight the history of the Mesa Verde Holiday Open House tradition and of these historic buildings. Attendance for the Open House is free. Please dress warmly and bring a flashlight.
The Chapin Mesa Archeological Museum will remain open until 9:00 p.m. There will be entertainment in the Museum Auditorium throughout the evening. Attendees are encouraged to bring print copies of their own luminaria photos from past years to the Chapin Museum for a community photo share. The Four Corners Astronomy Club will offer night sky viewing, weather depending, at the tennis courts. The Ranger Club, next to the restooms, will feature the history of the building, once a ranger dorm, and of the park. A historic photo slide show will be offered on the porch of the Chief Ranger’s Office.
The non-profit Mesa Verde Museum Association (MVMA) Museum bookstore will be open highlighting the sale of books, posters, puppets, historic photographs, and great holiday gifts, as well as in-store specials. Bring your gift list along to take advantage of this special occasion. Proceeds benefit Mesa Verde National Park.
Refreshments will be provided by ARAMARK and MVMA at the Spruce Tree Terrace.
No park entrance fee will be charged after 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 14, 2017. Mark your calendar and plan to join us in the park festivities! For further information, please contact the park at 970-529-4465.
