Family, Friends and Visitors

While the Maggie L. Walker NHS is named for the pioneering community leader, businesswoman and civil rights leader, Maggie L. Walker, there are many family, friends and guests that influenced Mrs. Walker and her story. Mrs. Walker lived in the historic home with many of her family members, ranging through four generations of family, from her mother to her youngest grandchildren. During her time in the home, she would also have a variety of friends and guests, such as Mary McLeod Bethune or Dr. W.E.B. Du Bois visit the home and spend time there and become part of Maggie L. Walker's life and the story of the home where she resided for almost 30 years of her life.
