The Maggie L. Walker NHS will only be offering in-person field trips for groups of 40 or less.
(this is the maximum capacity due to the limited size of the historic house and the schedule of walk-in tours for the general public)

Maggie L. Walker National Historic Site offers free, fun-filled curriculum-based educational programs throughout the year! Explore Maggie L. Walker NHS which includes a visitor center, exhibit building and Mrs. Walker's home. Participate in a variety of hands-on educational activities that are tailored to meet the Standards of Learning and will excite students to uncover the remarkable story of a 20th-century role model.
All programs are free, but require a reservation. Reservations fill up quickly, please book as soon as possible.

Nickels to Dollars: 1st and 2nd grade:
Students participate in a Ranger-guided tour at the Maggie L. Walker National Historic Site to learn about the life and times of a remarkable businesswoman, Maggie L. Walker. The students view a custom-made film about Mrs. Walker, design their own coin banks, and take a Ranger-guided tour of Mrs. Walker's house! Learning activities and hands-on participation allow students to learn how Mrs. Walker turned nickels to dollars as the country's first African American female bank president.

Legacy of Maggie L. Walker: 3rd to 5th grade:
Students participate in a ranger-guided tour at Maggie L. Walker National Historic Site to learn about the extraordinary life and contributions of Maggie Walker. While working in small groups, students become super sleuths to discover the life of Mrs. Walker. The students view museum exhibits, photographs, artifacts, and the Maggie Walker house to draw conclusions. Various activities and group discussions involve all students in this great learning adventure.

Middle and High School Curricula:
Students participate in a ranger-guided tour at Maggie L. Walker National Historic Site which includes the visitor center film, exhibit hall, and Walker's home. On-site ranger-guided tours, group discussions, and hands-on participation offer students great learning opportunities.
