Considering bringing your pet along on a visit to the Manhattan Project National Historical Park? Each one of our sites has established pet and service animal policies. Scroll down to learn more.

Hanford (Tri-Cities), WA

  • Hanford Visitor Center & US Department of Energy Tours: The Hanford Visitor Center, B Reactor tours, and Pre-War Historic Sites tours are operated by the Department of Energy. Review the Department of Energy's specific policies for the Hanford Site and visitor center before you visit.
  • Pet Boarding Options: If you are planning to explore areas of the park that are closed to pets, we recommend that you contact a local pet care provider. Commercial kennels and pet sitters are available in surrounding communities. Please check local listings. Reservations are strongly advised and may be required.
  • Service Animals: Visit the Accessibility at Hanford page for more information about service animals.

Los Alamos, NM

  • Los Alamos Visitor Center: Only service animals, as defined by the ADA, are allowed in the Los Alamos Visitor Center.
  • Pet Boarding Options: If you are planning to explore areas of the park that are closed to pets, we recommend that you contact a local pet care provider. Commercial kennels and pet sitters are available in surrounding communities. Please check local listings. Reservations are strongly advised and may be required.

Oak Ridge, TN

  • Oak Ridge Visitor Center: The Children’s Museum of Oak Ridge, of which the Oak Ridge Visitor Center is a part, only allows service animals, as defined by the ADA, in the visitor center.

General Pet and Animal Policies

  • 2010 Revision to Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act: The 2010 revision to Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) defines a “service animal” as a dog that has been individually trained to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of an individual with a disability, including a physical, sensory, psychiatric, intellectual, or other mental disability.
  • Service Dog In Training: A dog that is in training to become a service animal is not considered a service animal.
