Richland, W.A. – Get ready to explore the history, science, and people of the Manhattan Project this summer with National Park Service volunteers. The new Atomic Explorations programs are free one-hour history and science talks offered Monday through Thursday and on Saturdays at 2:30 pm in the Manhattan Project National Historical Park Visitor Center. Programs start on Monday, June 2 and will be offered through Saturday, September 6.Atomic Explorations programs delve into science, people, and legacies of the Manhattan Project. Participants will explore the events that culminated in the development and deployment of the world’s first atomic bombs during World War II and share Hanford’s connection to this world-changing history. Program topics will vary throughout the week to provide opportunities to learn and discover many different aspects of the Manhattan Project.
“We are excited to offer these new Atomic Explorations programs this summer to share the fascinating human history, complex science, and enduring relevancy of the Manhattan Project with visitors from across town and around the world,” said Hanford Unit Site Manager Becky Burghart.
Advance registration is not required or available for these programs. The park visitor center is located at 2000 Logston Blvd in Richland. Learn more about these programs and other ranger programs offered at Hanford.
