Invasives, Weed Wrenches, and Axes…Oh My!

Last week we learned about trail work, focusing on invasive species and practicing stewardship on trails for the public.On Tuesday, we went to Mount Peg, looking for trail signs that could potentially be confusing to the public. We ended up making a map, so we could later go back and replace or add signs and eliminate "social trails." On Wednesday we were back at Mount Peg, this time pulling invasive species such as Norway Maple, Barberry, Poison Parsnip, Garlic Mustard, and Honeysuckle. We spent the day using weed wrenches, axes, and our hands to remove invasives.On Thursday we visited The Student Conservation Association's (SCA) headquarters in Charlestown, New Hampshire where we did some landscaping in the morning and then listened to a professional panel on future internships and career paths within the SCA. On Friday and Saturday, it was back to duty stations around the park and working at a local event in Woodstock called Bookstock. This week we are preparing for our annual youth summit!
