Greetings

Hi Everyone!

Greetings! My name is Carmen Bango.  I have been working for the past two weeks as a National Park Foundation intern with my friend, Jack Greene. Throughout the summer I hope to learn more about the park service, create and help with projects and events, and discover what the next steps for youth are in environmental work within and outside of the park. The major project that Jack and I have been working on so far is a video project connecting the Change the World Kids reforestation work in Costa Rica with the conservation efforts ofthe Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Park in Woodstock, Vermont. Through telling the unique stewardship stories of Change the World Kids and TheNational Park, we hope to inspire youth to form a deeper connection with nature, and empower them to make a difference by working together to protect the environment.

The Video Project has gotten off to an amazing start. Jack took incredible footage with his fancy camera during our trip to Costa Rica in June.  Thank you to everyone who took time out of their busy schedules to be interviewed by Jack and me! We are now in the process of editing the footage from CR and filming in Woodstock. Last week Jack and I went on a long hike on Mt. Tom to try tocapture the sun-lit scenery and landscapes of the park on camera. I think the footage turned out pretty well!

This week we are also preparing for Bioblitz, an event happening this Saturday where the community will come together to try to document as many species as we can find in one day. I am in charge of the Junior Ranger program throughout Bioblitz, and am currently preparing some fun hands-on activities for us to do!

Thanks,
Carmen Bango
