The Beatles, with hits such as “I Want to Hold Your Hand” and “She Loves You,” dazzled American teenagers. In commemoration of the 50th anniversary of “Beatlemania,” Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park will host a “Beatles night” of entertainment on Saturday, September 13, 2014 at the LBJ Ranch. For this year’s final installment of Movies Under the Stars the park will screen A Hard Day’s Night, the Beatles’ first movie, and feature Beatles music by “The Eggmen” from Austin, Texas. The program starts at 6:00 pm when The Eggmen will play the first of two 50-minute sets. At 8:30 pm the park will show the film A Hard Day’s Night. Guests are encouraged to begin arriving at 5:00 pm and bring lawn chairs, refreshments, and blankets. Both children and adults are encouraged to dress up in Beatles clothing and 1960s attire for a chance to win prizes for best costumes. Throughout the 1960s, President Johnson used his ranch to host world leaders, celebrities, and friends for ranch barbecues, hunting excursions, and movies inside his airplane hangar. Just three months after Johnson became president, the Beatles arrived in New York in February of 1964 from Liverpool, England. Their appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show drew huge audiences. The band’s music and fun-loving wit took America by storm. The Beatles success began the “British Invasion,” with waves of English musical groups washing ashore in America, influencing the nation’s music and culture. The Eggmen formed in 1992 to perform the music of the Beatles and other 1960s bands. Over the years the five-piece band has won numerous awards including “The Best Cover Band” 11 times at the Austin Chronicle Music Awards and in 2005 the group won the “America’s Best Tribute Band” at the National Music Awards. Entry to the LBJ Ranch is conveniently located off Highway 290 onto Ranch Road 1. Follow the signs to enter the ranch on Park Road 49 near the one-room Junction School. Parking is available on the airstrip taxiway adjacent to the movie site. Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park is open seven days a week from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Johnson National Historical Park concludes its popular summer movie series on Saturday, September 13, with the showing of the 1964 movie A Hard Day's Night, starring the Beatles at the LBJ Ranch near Stonewall. Beginning at 6:00 pm The Eggmen, a Beatles tribute band will play two 50-minute sets. Following the concert, the film starts at 8:30 pm and will be presented on a large outdoor screen. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets, and refreshments. The program is offered free of charge. The Beatles arrived in America in February 1964 to play the Ed Sullivan Show. In July their first movie premiered, "A Hard Day's Night," a comedy filmed in black and white that captured the music and excitement of Beatlemania.
