Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park announces a temporary, four-day closure of a portion of the LBJ Ranch in Stonewall, TX. The closure will last from Monday, June 14th through Thursday, June 17th and will restrict visitor access to the north end of the ranch including the Show Barn, Hangar Visitor Center, Western National Parks Association gift store, and Texas White House Complex. Weather permitting, this will be the last closure for this project. The closure allows for construction work to continue on the historic taxiway. During this time, construction crews will finalize the compaction of the base material, validate grades, and lay down new asphalt.
The taxiway began serving its namesake purpose shortly after then-Senator Johnson purchased the LBJ Ranch from his aunt in 1951. Many times, LBJ would meet visitors as they deplaned and ferry them to the Texas White House in his Cushman Cart. Since 2008, the taxiway has been used as visitor parking.
The east end of the LBJ Ranch will remain open to visitors during this partial closure. Visitors will be able to enjoy the Junction School, LBJ Birthplace, and Johnson Family Cemetery. Please plan ahead and stop by LBJ State Park and Historic Site for an LBJ Ranch driving permit, as parking will be limited to the Cemetery parking area only. In addition, the Johnson Settlement trails and grounds of the Boyhood Home in Johnson City remain open.
