Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park Prepares for the Texas White House Rehabilitation Project

STONEWALL, TEXAS – From Monday, January 2, through Wednesday, January 4, the LBJ Ranch in Stonewall, Texas will begin preparation for the Texas White House Rehabilitation Project, funded by the Great American Outdoors Act (GAOA). The engineering and architectural firm of Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates, Inc. will be conducting site investigations to determine the above and below-ground conditions of the Texas White House and other historic structures. To accomplish this, the firm will dig exploratory test pits as large as 6x6 feet wide with a depth up to 3.5 feet and will also remove and replace portions of exterior boards and siding.

During this work, the Lady Bird Johnson exhibit room located in the Hangar Visitor Center will be closed, as well as part of the restroom facilities. All other points of interest, including the driving tour of the LBJ Ranch, will maintain normal hours of operation.

The 2020 Great American Outdoors Act (GAOA), and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and other construction funding sources, are part of a concerted effort to address the large maintenance backlog in national parks. Supported by revenue from energy development, GAOA's Legacy Restoration Fund provides up to $1.3 billion per year for five years to make significant enhancements in national parks to ensure their preservation and provide opportunities for recreation, education, and enjoyment for current and future visitors. The park is currently in the design phase of the project, which is expected to last through 2023.

Please note that both Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park and Lyndon B. Johnson State Park and Historic Site will be closed for the New Year’s Day holiday, January 1, 2023.
