In 1839, a small, humble, one-and-a-half story cottage was constructed at the corner of Eighth and Jackson Streets in Springfield, Illinois. In 1844, Abraham Lincoln purchased this house and moved in with his wife and his first son, Robert Todd Lincoln. The Lincoln family called this place home for the next seventeen years. The home grew and changed with the Lincoln family to become the two-story tan house with green shutters visible today. View the Lincoln home and historic area throughout the seasons. |
